Twee is a fashion style that first emerged in the 1980s, characterized by a childlike innocence, vintage aesthetic, and eclectic use of colors, materials and patterns.
Twee often features palettes consisting of earthy browns and brightly saturated colors like greens, reds, and yellows. Heavy influence is taken from 1950s, 1960s and 1970s Fashion, especially styles like Rockabilly, Mod Fashion, and Beatnik. A-line silhouettes, legwear (often patterned), Peter Pan Collars, Cardigans and Sweaters, thick-framed Glasses and scarves are all commonly seen elements. Patterns like Polka Dots, plaid, argyle and gingham are also frequently used.
A revivalist aesthetic emerged in the 2020s, known as Whimsy Twee. The original twee style is much more down to earth and simple than whimsy twee, which takes a lot of influence from Heisei Retro and features a lot of focus on layering and mixing different elements together.
