About Moonflower (Flower)

Also known as: 夕顔, 夜顔, ユウガオ, ヨルガオ

Ipomoea alba, commonly called moonflower, is a species of Flowering plant in the family Convolvulaceae.

As a species of Morning Glory, it shares the same features. It is a vine (more specifically a liana), and the flowers are funnel-shaped, but instead of blooming during the day, they bloom at night. The flowers are usually white, but sometimes pink.

Its common Japanese name, ヨルガオ (夜顔 yoru-gao), literally translates to "night face".

"Moonflower" is also sometimes used for flowers of the genus Datura, which also bloom at night. Unlike I. alba, they aren't vines. They are also poisonous.
