Shinzo Abe (September 21, 1954 - July 8, 2022) was the former Prime Minister of Japan. He is known for being the longest serving prime minister of Japan to date, serving from 2006 to 2007 and then from 2012 to 2020, as well as for being the grandson of former prime minister and war criminal Nobusuke Kishi. He was assassinated on July 8, 2022, using a Homemade Gun.
Memes surrounding the former Prime Minister vary drastically between Japan and the rest of the world. Domestically, he was a big part of 2000s JP meme culture (ex. joking over his sharing the same surname as Abe Takakazu), and later his 2012 cabinet and LDP party was referred to as the "Abengers" after the 2012 Avengers movie. Internationally, his 2010s policies focused on increasing Japan's birth rate would see widespread memery, culminating in the Have Sex (Meme) meme.
