Historically, Zuo Ci was a Chinese philosopher and taoist who angered Cao Cao (Real Life) with supposed feats of magic. His magic is embellished further in the Romance Of The Three Kingdoms, and he voices support for Liu Bei (Real Life).
In the series he often plays a neutral role wanting wants best for the land, though usually finding Cao Cao (Shin Sangoku Musou) unfit and Liu Bei (Shin Sangoku Musou) hopeful. His Shin Sangoku Musou 8 story is essentially a Shu storyline.
He has a stronger role in Musou Orochi where he's treated among the mystics.
