About Yuiwata

Also known as: 結綿, 結綿島田, ゆいわた

A Japanese hairstyle (Nihongami). Traditionally worn by young, unmarried women (a shimada hairstyle). Its literal translation is "cotton knot".

It resembles three bulbous hair buns - a strip of hair is tied multiple times vertically along the scalp, starting from the bangs. It was traditionally tied with floss silk (raw silk, similar to cotton in appearance - which gave the hairstyle its namesake).
