The Dinosaur-like creatures appearing in the Mario (Series) series since Super Mario World, as well as their own series of games. They come in a multitude of colors, with green being the default. They have Frog-like tongues which can be used to swallow enemies and turn them into Yoshi Eggs which can be thrown. They also all can rapidly kick their feet to gain more height mid-air, called a Flutter Jump.
Takashi Tezuka, director of Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island, insists that Yoshis are not actually dinosaurs but more related to Turtles / Koopa Troopas.
Rex (Super Mario World)es, Dorries and Plessies seem to be species that are distantly related to the Yoshis.
Voiced by composer Totaka Kazumi since Yoshi'S Story in 1997.
