Also known as: 山葵, わさび, 绿芥末, 日本芥末, ワサビ
A spice that has an extremely strong flavor, often served as a green paste with Sushi. It is similar in taste to hot Mustard or horseradish rather than Chili Peppers, in that it stimulates the nose more than the tongue.
Due to restraints on mass cultivation, especially outside of Japan, cheap "wasabi" is typically made from the faster and easier growing horseradish which they dye green. Horseradish is a relative of wasabi and is commonly referred to as "western wasabi" (西洋わさび) in Japan.
