Also known as: 立烏帽子, 烏帽子, 冠
A tate-eboshi (立烏帽子, lit. "standing eboshi cap") is a tall, cylindrical Hat, traditionally black, worn by Japanese male aristocrats since the Heian period. It may sometimes have a Chinstrap tied under the chin. Often worn with Kariginu.
Though originally made of cloth, later versions were made of lacquered paper and other, more opaque, materials. These tend to have a very distinct, "crinkled" appearance on the outside. Today these tate-eboshi may still be seen worn by Shinto priests conducting ceremonies.
Notably worn by Mononobe No Futo and Soga No Tojiko of the Touhou series.
