Jinmensō is a term from Japanese folklore and traditional medicine, literally meaning “human-faced sore.”
It refers to a boil, cyst, or ulcer that is said to resemble a human face — often with features like eyes, nose, and mouth.
In legends, these sores were sometimes believed to have emotions, to speak, or even to laugh or cry, causing great distress to the afflicted person.
