The "Zero Calories Theory" is a joke made by the Manzai duo Sandwichman in 2017. Their straightman, Date Mikio, proposed a revolutionary theory how not to get fat - some foods contain no calories depending on their ingredients or how they're prepared.
There's many Sandwichman's zero calories jokes, among them one especially liked is how Donuts contain no calories:
- Calories are concentrated in the center of food. Therefore, foods with a hole in the center, such as donuts or Baumkuchen, have 0 kcal because their central part was hollowed out.
- Foods shaped like a ring, such as donuts, represent the number "0" and actually contain 0 kcal.
The joke found its way into manga, anime & games, for example Cafe Stella To Shinigami No Chou and Blue Archive. Thanks to the Zero Calories Theory, Sandwichman won the "Ame Talk! Grand Prize" in 2018, and that same year, the theory was spread further through the song Umarvelous by MONKEY MAJIK.
