The arquebus is a forerunner of the Rifle and other long firearms.
Also known as a "hagbut", it was a portable long-barrelled gun dating from the 15th century: fired by a Wheellock or Matchlock mechanism. The Japanese model, first imported from Portugal in 1543, was known as the Tanegashima (Gun).
