Lead character in the Pokémon anime from 1997 to 2023, based on Red (Pokemon), the player character in the first Pokémon games.

Ash is a Pokémon Trainer who, over the course of 1,200+ weekly episodes, took on the challenge of each region that was depicted in the most recent main games at the time, as well as thwarting the evil schemes of the Team Rocket trio. He has had a number of travel partners and recurring rivals.

He wears a blue, sleeveless Vest over a White Shirt with a red stripe on the front, as well as Two-Tone Shorts (blue on the front, dark blue on the back). His new Baseball Cap is mostly red, with a white brim and a black Pokédex symbol on the front. He also sometimes carries a green Backpack.

His signature Pokémon is Pikachu, which he chooses not to evolve into Raichu due to it not wanting to.

As a running gag throughout the series, he sometimes crossdresses under the name Ashley (Pokemon).

His name in Japanese is a reference to the Pokémon creator, Tajiri Satoshi.
