Yamada Asaemon Shugen was the 2nd ranked Asaemon, as well as a previous Assistant Instructor, in the Yamada clan.
After the shogun became impatient of the first team acquiring the Elixir of Life on Kotaku, Shugen became the de facto leader of a second team sent to acquire the elixir.
