Tokugawa Ieyasu (born Matsudaira Takechiyo, January 31, 1543 – June 1, 1616) was a Real Life Japanese Samurai, daimyo and the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan, which ruled from 1603 until the Meiji Restoration in 1868.
Raised as the political hostage of Imagawa Yoshimoto, he broke off relations after Yoshimoto's death in Okehazama. Renamed himself to Matsudaira Motonobu, then Matsudaira Motoyasu, then assumed the Tokugawa Ieyasu name in 1567. Co-led the Oda-Tokugawa army in the Battle of Anegawa against the Azai-Asakura army alongside Oda Nobunaga (Real Life). Later fought against Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Real Life) at Komaki and Nagakute (outskirts of Nagoya (City)) in 1584 before making peace with Hideyoshi.
After Hideyoshi's death, he led the Eastern Army in the Battle of Sekigahara against the (pro-Toyotomi) Western Army led by Ishida Mitsunari (Real Life) in 1600. He became shogun in 1603, and founded the Tokugawa Shogunate which ruled Japan until 1868. This time period is known as the Edo Jidai.
