In older tarot decks designed for card games, the High Priestess is La Papesse, a female Pope. Occult tarot decks surround the High Priestess with esoteric symbolism; she wears a crown like that of the goddess Hathor, she sits between two pillars labeled B and J she holds a Book or Scroll, and the Moon is at her feet.
