A 3D CGI animated television series produced by Lucasfilm Animation and released in 2014. It is a sequel to Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008 Tv Series).
It premiered as a 44-minute film, Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion, on October 3, 2014 on Disney Channel prior to the official premiere of the series on October 13 on Disney XD. It ran until 2018 for four seasons.
The show is set 14 years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and five years before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Rebels takes place during an era when the Galactic Empire (Star Wars) is securing its grip on the galaxy. Imperial forces are hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights while a fledgling Rebel Alliance (Star Wars) against the Empire is taking form. It is followed up by Star Wars: Ahsoka.
Most of the visual style of Star Wars Rebels is notable because it is inspired by the Star Wars original trilogy concept art by Ralph McQuarrie .
A Japanese webcomic adapting the series began publication in 2019. The adaptation features art by Aoki Akira and is published by Line (Naver) in Japan, while physical volumes are translated and published overseas by Yen Press.
