Saab 39 Gripen, also called JAS 39, is a multirole combat Aircraft in the Swedish Airforce. It was first flown in 1988 and entered active service in 1996.
The Gripen namesake (which means Griffin in Swedish) was the result of a public naming contest in 1980.
