Rune is a young boy from Asgardr, the realm of the gods, with an innate ability to decypher the Twilit Runes. This makes him a target for Alfaðör, who hopes to sacrifice Rune to gain unattained knowledge.
In reality, Rune IS Alfaðör, with the elderly Alfaðör being a mere fake created by him. Humorously, he is implied to have masterminded or influenced all of the story's prior conflicts simply for entertainment.
