About Rk62

Also known as: RK62

The RK 62 (Rynnäkkökivääri 62) is an Assault Rifle manufactured by Valmet and SAKO, Limited. It is the standard issue infantry weapon of the Finnish Defence Forces. The weapon was designed in 1962 and is based on the Kalashnikov design. The RK 62 mainly uses the same 7.62×39mm cartridge as the AK-47. It has a three-pronged flash suppressor, and a groove for a specially designed knife Bayonet. The Gun also heavily influenced the Israeli IMI Galil.

The RK 62 is considered a high quality AK variant. The biggest single improvement, apart from the overall receiver and barrel quality, are the iron sights. While most AKs have the rear sight mounted on top of the gas piston housing on top of the receiver. In the RK 62 the rear sight is mounted on the rear of the receiver cover with tritium illuminated night-sights. The older model has a wooden buttstock instead of the more common metal tubular one.
