Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima is a historic photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945 depicting six Marines and a United States Navy corpsman raising the American Flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II.
The image has become one of the core symbols of the United States Marine Corps, featured in artwork, monuments, and even the design of the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, VA.
