The Cylon Raider is the main Cylon aerospace fighter during their war of extermination against the human colonies.
Despite being slow it is heavily armored and armed with laser cannons and missiles. The raider is usually piloted by three Cylon Centurions.
In the reimagined series, the Raiders are redesigned and have two variants. A fighter variant that are much smaller and sleeker than the original series and a Heavy Raider variant which serves as a troop transport. Unlike the original series Raiders which required three Cylon pilots, the reimagined Raiders are sentient biological machines who can think and act similar to a attack dog. Furthermore, when a Raider is destroyed in battle, they can upload their minds to the nearest Basestar and download into a new Raider body, giving them battle experience.
