It first appeared in the Macross Zero OVA from 2002.
The Octos is a type of amphibious combat Walker (Robot) mecha developed by the Anti-U.N. forces. It does possess variable geometry and is armed with ballistic as well as energy weaponry.
It was designed by Ishigaki Jun'Ya.
