A period of feudal Japan in the 14th century in which the country was divided between two opposing Imperial courts, in the north in Kyoto (known as Heian at the time) and in the south in Yoshino respectively, with the Southern Court ultimately renouncing their claim in favor of the Northern Court. The Sengoku Jidai would happen afterward.
