Fifth game of the Touhou series and the last for the PC-98 generation - released 30 December 1998 - before going into a 4-year hiatus.
For no apparent reason, demons and youkai overran Gensokyo once more, this time from a cave leading to Makai (Touhou). Hakurei Reimu (PC-98), Kirisame Marisa (PC-98), Mima (Touhou) and Kazami Yuuka (PC-98), each with their own agenda, decide to enter the cave in search of the root of the problem.
The game also marks the first appearance of Alice Margatroid (PC-98), Stage 3 and Extra Stage Boss and later a recurring playable character for the Windows generation.
