Mont St-Michel

A tidal island and mainland commune in Normandy, France. Together with its surrounding bay, Mont-Saint-Michel Bay, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 for its unique aesthetic and importance as a medieval Christian site. Its abbey, Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey, is a popular pilgrimage site and has been a French <I>monument historique</i> since 1862.
