About Mauser 98

Also known as: G98, Gew98, Kar98k

A series of Bolt Action Rifles designed and manufactured by Mauser, chambered for 7.92×57mm and utilizing a 5-round internal magazine. The Mauser 98 is recognizable by its two handguard metal bands on the front (one serves for sling swivels), ability to store a Cleaning Rod inside the lower handguard, exposed barrel, and semi-grip buttstock.

This tag includes any variants, such as:

  • Gewehr 98, introduced in 1898. The original model that served the German military during World War I. Has a straight bolt handle.
  • Karabiner 98k, introduced in 1935. Essentially the shortened Gewehr 98 of it with a bent bolt. Used by the Germans during World War II. Generally known as "Kar 98" (with or without space) for short.
  • Other foreign-produced copies such as the Polish Wz.29 and Chinese Type 24.
