Lighting Match

Lighting a match by rubbing its head against a rough surface, usually the strip provided on the side of a Matchbox or the back of a Matchbook. Doing so scrapes off the matchhead's outer layer, allowing the pyrophoric chemical underneath to spontaneously combust.
