About Jingyi (Trouser)

Also known as: 胫衣, 脛衣, jingyi

Jingyi was a type of lower garment widely used in the pre-Qin period, and it was the most common type of "trousers" when skirts and dresses still dominated the garment system. It usually consisted of two separate pieces of cloth that wrapped around the legs and were tied with belts, unlike the one-piece trousers of later generations. Jingyi was mainly designed for ease of walking, riding, and working, and it was completely different from modern stockings; its structure was closer to early leg-protecting trousers.
