Husayn ibn Ali (Arabic: الحسين بن علي) (11 January 626 – 10 October 680 CE) was a social, political and religious leader in early medieval Arabia. He was the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and a significant figure in Islam, particularly revered in Shia Islam as the third Imam. He is best known for his role in the Battle of Karbala, where he was martyred while standing against the tyranny of the Umayyad caliph Yazid.
In most icons, he is often depicted wearing a Green Turban.
