About Hashihime

Also known as: 橋姫

A youkai from Japanese Mythology. Her name translates to "Bridge Princess". She is a jealous spirit depicted with a White Robe or kimono with flaming Candles on her head. The origin of the story is unclear, but is believed to be based on a woman waiting for her lover to meet her under a bridge, only for him to run off with another woman.

Mizuhashi Parsee is based on this character.

If the scene depicts a character with (especially three) candles on her head, with a Mallet or Hammer and Nail (Hardware)s, and/or a Straw Doll. It is probably (also) a reference to the Ushi No Koku Mairi ritual, which involves cursing a person.
