About Gardenia (Flower)

Also known as: クチナシ, 梔子, 栀子, 山梔子

A flowering shrub in the Rubiaceae family. It is mostly represented by Gardenia jasminoides, commonly known as cape jasmine, jasmine gardenia, or simply gardenia.

There are two commonly cultivated forms of Gardenia jasminoides: single-flowered and double-flowered. The single-flowered form has six (sometimes more) petals and a protruding center. The double-flowered form has layered, whorled flowers that resemble roses. Gardenias are almost always white, though they can also be ivory or cream-colored.

Note that although this flower is commonly called cape jasmine or jasmine gardenia, it is not actually a true jasmine.
