About Dogeza

Also known as: 土下座

A type of traditional Japanese bow performed by Kneeling down and placing the hands and forehead on the ground. It is used to apologize, to beg for forgiveness, or to show respect to a higher-class person, often by grovelling at their feet.

The Naked Dogeza is a more extreme form of dogeza, often performed as an act of sexual humiliation.

For the pose itself (without the intent of deference or apology), see Prostration.
