A German Car Racing motorsports series. Originally ran from 1984 to 1996 as Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft, the current incarnation of DTM began in 2000.
While DTM's original incarnation raced touring cars, the revived series was notable for its Class 1 Racecars, which were silhouette racers loosely based on production cars, similar to Super GT's GT500 class. In 2021 the series switched to GT3-spec machinery to attract new manufacturers, no longer requiring them to develop a new racecar for a single series.
