David (Bible)

A character from the Hebrew Bible and the Qur'an. He was the king of the Israelites especially famous for slaying the very tall Philistine Goliath (Bible) (he first disabled him with a stone fired from a sling before beheading him with a sword) despite being a young shepherd with no military experience at the time. According to both Jewish and Christian tradition, one of his descendants will resp. did become the messiah.
