A country in Central Europe, consisting of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which existed from roughly 1918 to 1992 (with a gap during World War II). Existed in two periods: the interwar period, when it also controlled a part of modern-day Ukraine, and the Cold War, when it was under Soviet influence as the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
