About Calla Lily

Also known as: オランダカイウ, カラー(植物)

Calla lily is a common name for eight species of widely cultivated ornamental flowering plants in the genus Zantedeschia, native to southern Africa. Despite their name they are only distantly related to true lilies.

The inflorescence of a Calla lily consists of a single, brightly-colored, funnel-shaped spathe surrounding a yellow finger-shaped spadix. Common colors include white, yellow, and pink.

Calla lily may very rarely also refer to Calla palustris, which is native to the northern hemisphere. Despite technically being the original Calla lily, in modern times it is much less well-known, as it looks entirely different and is not cultivated significantly (if at all).
