Root that develop from a location on a plant above the surface of the earth or water, as from a stem. They either pass for some distance through the air before reaching the soil or remain hanging in the air and can serve different purposes (for support, breathing air or propagating...)
They are commonly seen in screw pine, banyan, mangrove, etc.
