A flying Wyvern from the Monster Hunter (Series) series. Known as Liolæus in Japan.
Rathalos is a large, red, fire-breathing dragon, known as the King of the Wyverns. Every Rathalos is male, as their female counterpart is Rathian. Unlike Rathian, Rathalos fights mostly from the air, has poisonous talons, and is able to shoot fireballs while in flight. They're often found in wooded and volcanic regions.
The flagship monster for the first game in the series, it has appeared in every game since, and often represents the series in crossovers such as those in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Dragalia Lost.
There are two known subspecies; the Azure Rathalos, a blue variant, and the Silver Rathalos, a rare variant with a metallic silver sheen. Originally appearing in Monster Hunter G, they appear less often than the base version.
