The trend has sparked significant discourse and criticism within the online art community for hyper-sexualizing the featured character and relying on repetitive, suggestive posing along with unrealistic and disproportionate body ideals, objectification and fetishization, harmful influence on body image and aesthetic and quality fatigue.

Despite this, some artists have took the criticism to heart and have the character Looking Back or Looking At Viewer rather than facing way and featuring new angles.
