The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the 23rd FIFA World Cup, a tournament for men's Soccer, taking place on June 11 to July 19, 2026. It is jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. It's the first World Cup to be hosted by three nations and the first to include 48 teams, an expansion from the previous 32-team format.
During and before the tournament, controversy has been present, due to the United States's immigration policies affecting qualified teams and fans, plus Iran's participation during an ongoing war waged by the United States and Israel, and FIFA's ticket pricing.
The popularity of this World Cup would inspire a wave of Hatsune Miku art in the Worldwide Miku style, as artists drew Mikus in the various Soccer Uniforms of the teams playing. Following Brazil's defeat of Japan, a wave of Brazilian Miku art emerged, as Brazilian fans claimed Miku as theirs with the victory, beginning the Hatsune Miku World Cup Custody Battle (Meme), which would be followed up by Norway after defeating Brazil, spawning Norwegian Miku, and then England's defeat of Norway, giving us English Miku. Argentinian Miku would come to the forefront after England lost to Argentina. On July 19, 2026, Spain triumphed over Argentina in the final, winning the cup as well as custody over Hatsune Miku, with Spanish Miku as the final Miku standing.
A separate trend involved the VTuber Essie, when the teams she supported were repeatedly eliminated in succession.
