A type of drinking vessel with a handle and possibly a hinged lid. They are usually made of wooden staves, like a small Barrel, but some tankards may be made of metal or ceramic. The traditional beer stein may be thought of as a highly ornamental type of tankard.
Due to the nostalgic design of tankards, they are commonly seen in medieval European Fantasy settings, particularly in taverns.
