Also known as: supergirl, スーパーガール, カーラ・ゾー゠エル, KaraZor-El, KaraZorEl
Supergirl, also known by her Kryptonian name as Kara Zor-El, is a character from DC Comics' Superman (Series) series. She is the young female counterpart of Superman, usually having the same powers as he does.
There are many iterations of the character "Supergirl", but the most well-known and generally considered the "base" version is Kara Zor-El. Born on the dying planet Krypton, her parents Zor-El and Alura sent her in a rocket to Earth to protect her younger cousin Kal, but the rocket traveled more slowly and she arrived on Earth decades after Superman had landed. She was adopted by the Danvers family and eventually became a reporter known as Kara Danvers.
As Superman (Kal-El) is the last son of Krypton, then Supergirl, his cousin, is the last daughter of Krypton, with both coming from the same family house of El. She wears a female version of Superman's Superhero Costume that usually gives her a Skirt among other feminine alterations depending on her variation.
For the older female counterpart to Superman, see Superwoman. For the older version of Supergirl from Earth-Two, see Power Girl.
