Devils Tower

Devils Tower is a prominent laccolithic Butte in the Black Hills of northeastern Wyoming, USA. It stands 867 feet above ground level with its summit at an altitude of 5,112 above mean sea level. Devils Tower is the main feature of the eponymous Devils Tower National Monument. It was made famous in popular culture by its appearance in Steven Spielberg's 1977 motion picture Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. In common with other geographic features of the American West which received their English names in the 19th century (e.g., Pikes Peak in Colorado), its name is possessive but officially lacks the apostrophe that would be required by modern English grammar.
