About Canadian Destroyer

Also known as: カナディアンデストロイヤー

A variation of the Piledriver (Wrestling) wrestling move that is made famous by former Total Nonstop Action Wrestling wrestler Petey Williams (who named it after his Canadian heritage), it is also referred to as either a front flip piledriver, or sunset flip piledriver.

The Canadian Destroyer begins in a position in which the opponent is bent forward against the wrestler's midsection. The wrestler then grabs around the opponent's midsection latching onto the opponent's back, with their head to one side of the opponent's hips or between their legs, keeping their legs around the opponent's head. From this position the wrestler pushes off the mat with their legs to flip the opponent over. As both wrestlers flip, the attacking wrestler uses their body weight to land in a seated position driving the opponent's head down to the mat between the wrestler's thighs.

Its usage became more commonplace in the 2010s, with WWE later on allowing its use despite banning almost all piledriver variations. Current WWE wrestler Penta adopted it as his primary finisher in the company, calling it as the Mexican Destroyer (naming it after his Mexican heritage instead). There is also a diving variation from the second rope, with current All Elite Wrestling wrestler Adam Cole uses said variation, calling it the Panama Sunrise.
